Director of Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Junior Company (BRB2)

Kit Holder trained at The Royal Ballet School and joined Birmingham Royal Ballet, in 2000. Over a 24-year career as a dancer, touring throughout the UK and internationally,  he performed featured roles in all the major classics, and in ballets by the world’s leading choreographers.  He is an experienced choreographer, creating his first ballet Small Worlds, for Birmingham Royal Ballet, in 2007.  Most recently, his duet Capriccio premiered at the Royal Ballet’s International Draft Works program, and was later performed in Japan at the Osaka International Expo.

Kit has led BRB2 (Birmingham Royal Ballet’s junior company) as Artistic Coordinator since its inception in 2022, overseeing the successful launch of the company and delivery of its performance tours. In 2024, he retired from performing to expand his role, becoming Artistic Coordinator across the whole Birmingham Royal Ballet company, assisting the Director and Assistant Director in planning and delivering the company’s artistic programming.

He holds master’s degrees in Choreography and in Sport and Performance Psychology. His research has focussed on dancers’ experiences of flow state, and on dancers’ experiences of the student to professional transition. He is frequently engaged as a consultant in elite sport, primarily with the British swimming and trampoline Olympic squads.
